Tom Felton fan panel at ECCC set for April 1

The fan panel with Tom Felton that I’ll moderate at Emerald City Comicon has been set for 1:15 p.m. Sunday, April 1.

Felton is best known as the title character’s evil rival, Draco Malfoy, in the “Harry Potter” movies.

Last year I had the pleasure of interviewing actor John Noble from “Lord of the Rings” and “Fringe” at ECCC. I spent the first 15 minutes interviewing Noble on stage and then he took questions from the audience.

Like all of the young “Potter” actors we’ve seen Felton literally grow up on screen. He’s 24 now and eager to move his career beyond HP.

Felton got his big break as Jodie Foster’s son in the 1997 film “Anna and the King.” But immortal fame came when he was cast as Malfoy in the first HP film: “Harry Potter and the
Sorceror’s Stone.” He actually wanted and tried out for the part of Harry Potter but we know how that turned out.

Still, I don’t think Felton can complain. He’s been in all eight films and won Best Villain at the 2010 and 2011 MTV Movie
Awards.

Felton had a very small cameo as himself in “Get Him to the Greek” when Jonah Hill runs into him in a London club. He also starred in this year’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” Again, he played a villainous character. His next film is the sports drama “From
The Rough.”

Tom Felton debuts Hawaiian single

Harry Potter star Tom Felton has released his first single, Hawaii, online.

The actor, better known as Draco Malfoy, signed up with an independent record label last year and is releasing his first track, which hears Felton wishing he was relaxing on the US island.

The actor-turned-singer had previously said: “I was thinking of doing some N-Dubz-style stuff. I am looking to get into the grime rap UK scene. I’m going to change my image. Backward caps, the lot.”

Despite this, the track is said to contain a mixture of guitar, piano and Tom’s voice, echoing the style of Jason Mraz and Joshua Radin.

However, Tom has not closed the door to acting and is currently appearing in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Tom Felton ‘Grateful’ He Wasn’t Cast As Harry Potter

With the “Harry Potter” film series ending this Friday, it’s hard to imagine actors other than Daniel Radcliffe or Rupert Grint playing the roles of Harry Potter or Ron Weasley.

Tom Felton, best known as Draco Malfoy in the films, says that very easily could have been the case, though. He apparently originally auditioned for the role of Harry and then went on to try out for Ron before finally landing the role of Draco. He admitted to MTV News that he would have been a “very different individual” had he been cast as either of the other two characters originally.

“I’m very grateful I am in the film at all, but even more grateful that I got the character of Draco,” Felton said. “I think Rupert and Dan, there’s no question in my mind, there’s no one else in the world that, A) could have played the character better, but B) could have handled the behind-the-scenes pressure those guys have dealt with over the last decade.”

Felton said there was never any sense of jealousy or rivalry on the set of “Harry Potter” after he, Radcliffe, Grint and the rest of the ensemble were finally cast in the roles they would hold for more than a decade. Instead, the crew became a family.

5 Things You Don’t Know About Harry Potter’s Tom Felton

For the past 10 years, Tom Felton has cast a spell on Harry Potter audiences as schoolyard bully Draco Malfoy. As the wizarding series comes to an end Friday with the release of the eighth and final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Us Weekly uncovers some need-to-know info about the 23-year-old Brit.

PHOTOS: Ten years of Harry Potter premieres

1. He’s happy playing the bad guy.
“I’m very grateful I am in the film at all, but even more grateful that I got the character of Draco,” Felton tells MTV News. Praising costars Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe, who play Ron Weasley and Harry Potter respectively, Felton adds that “there’s no one else in the world who…could have handled the behind-the-scenes pressure those guys have dealt with over the last decade.”

2. He’s a natural brunette.
To capture author J.K. Rowling’s description of his character, Felton dyed his hair platinum blond every 10 days. “The worst thing was dying my hair blonde,” Felton said in a 2008 press conference. “It built some super human resistance but it seems to have survived.”

3. Felton spends his downtime fishing fishing for carp.
“They are the most beautiful fish, and you don’t need to eat them,” Felton tells Scholastic. “You can just put them back and catch them again. It’s a less brutal sport as opposed to eating your catch.”

‘Harry Potter’ Stars Offer Advice To Younger Selves

When MTV News sat down with Rupert Grint and Tom Felton recently, we asked them if, when looking back at the incredible journey they’ve been on for so long, they have any advice they would offer their young selves when they first joined the cast in 2000.

“I should have a witty answer prepared, but I don’t,” Felton admitted. “I guess I’d just say, ‘Enjoy it and try to take in as much as you can.’ There’s nothing I’d change, to be honest with you.

“I’ve had a good time over the years,” Felton added. “I wouldn’t change a day of it. [I'd] just take a bit more in. When you’re 12 or 13, you don’t care about anything. You just want to go home and play PlayStation, so there are definitely some memories I wished I’d taken in.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Sets Midnight Box Office Record

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 took in $43.5 million at the midnight box office in North America — the biggest midnight opening of all time. Potter earned almost 50% more than previous midnight champion, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which earned $30 million from midnight shows when it was released in June 2010.

The Harry Potter franchise is estimated to be the most profitable film franchise of ever. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the eighth and final film has already grossed more than $100 million at the worldwide box office. If momentum keeps rising, this may be the biggest worldwide opening of all time.

Tom Felton talks Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes CGI leap

Tom Felton’s fast proving the most versatile of the Harry Potter kids.

His latest role in Rupert Wyatt’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sees Felton scruff up and don his best US accent to play primate-pestering bully Dodge, opposite a CGI ape, created by Andy Serkis through performance capture.

Chatting with Total Film exclusively, Felton revealed he’s keen to further expand his range, to join Serkis in CGI circles.

“I bored Andy for hours about how he got into it and how he came to be the godfather of it all,” said Felton “He talked me through a lot of it, and it’s something I’d like to look into.

“There’s so many scripts that you could have read 20 years ago and you’d have said ‘You can’t physically make that’ but now it’s an option – you can do things that weren’t really achievable.

“In this film you’re going to see such advances in the CGI that you’re going to look back at the old apes costumes and really think ‘that’s history’.”

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes opens on 12 August.

For more from Tom Felton, get the new issue of Total Film magazine, which hits news stands on Thursday 7 July.

Tom Felton Really Isn’t Like Draco — At All

JJJ knows that Tom Felton isn’t anything like Draco Malfoy and most of his fans know too.

The 23-year-old actor dished again to the Daily Mail that he’s not the character who shot him into a household name, his friendship with Daniel Radcliffe, and going back to auditions. Check it:

Opposites Attract? “I’m stunned when people ask if I’m like Draco. Jo (Rowling) wrote Draco as a one-dimensional bully, a slimy individual, to get the audience hating him. Rupert (Grint) and Ron, I can see the similarity. Emma (Watson) and Hermione, certainly. Even Daniel and Harry. But for crying out loud, I’m definitely not like Draco.
